From the Superintendent's Desk

April 23, 2012

As research and common knowledge will attest to, a child’s success in school is greatly influenced by their development from birth to age 3.  Because of this reality, and the interest expressed by the community, the school’s administrative team and board of education have continued to dialogue about preschool during this past year.  And now that the we are going to lose the services of a community preschool which has served Shelton for may years, our interest in day care for our future students is more intensified, as are the interests of the patrons of our school district.

As I write this Mr. Bob Schanou and other members of our United Methodist Church, with the assistance and cooperation of the school, are engaged in learning more about child care and preschool needs in Shelton.  So to help gather information we would like to invite all the families in Shelton, who have children younger than 5 to complete a survey.  If you have Internet access you may access the survey on the front page at www.sheltonbulldogs.org.  Or you may also pickup a survey to complete at the school in the superintendent’s office.  We would like to have all surveys completed by August 6th if possible, and would appreciate everyone’s help in getting the word out.

And last but certainly not lease, don’t forget school begins August 15th.  Parents and students take time to read through the new handbook, as there are some important changes regarding attendance, and concussion awareness.  Unfortunately, the district has also raised its lunch prices ten cents, and its breakfast prices a nickel this year.  Even though the district subsidizes it’s lunch program, and does not earn an annual profit, the increase will help the district combat rising costs.

Also, the 2012-2013 school calendar is available for download at www.sheltonbulldogs.org.
