Shelton Jr. & Sr. High students recently received Patriots Pen and Voice of Democracy Essay awards from the Kearney VFW Auxiliary Post 759.  The Patriots Pen Essay is for Junior High students and this year the theme was "How are you inspired by America".  Mr. Walter and Mr. Reutzel selected a number of essays to enter and we were fortunate enough to have Arabella Rolfsmeyer (8th grade) and Mia Portillo (8th grade) selected as finalists in the local contest.  The Voice of Democracy Essay is for High School students and this year the theme was "What are the greatest attributes of our democracy".  Addison Burr (Senior) received 3rd place and Justine Pope (Junior) received first place in the local competition.  Justine's Voice of Democracy essay will now be entered into the District Competition with hopes of continuing on to the State Competition in Lincoln.  Congratulations to our students that were presented awards, and to all of our students that wrote quality essays for showing pride in their country and in their own writing skills.
