January is a time for communities throughout Nebraska to recognize and honor the dedicated service of local school board members. These volunteers are elected by their communities to govern and oversee public education, helping set the vision, policies, and budgets that guide their districts. During this month (and the designated School Board Recognition Week within it, Jan. 25-31, 2026), districts and educational organizations express gratitude for the board’s leadership, commitment, and advocacy on behalf of students, families, and educators.
